Today there is even a Wooley Swamp Farms RV Park in Snow Hill, North Carolina. Since Charlie Daniels roots included North Carolina I loved that he mentions Carver’s Creek which today is a state park just outside of Fayetteville NC. The song tells a spooky story that includes references to the GHOST of Lucius Clay. The song was written by the people below including Charlie Daniels. The title is “The Legend of Wooley Swamp”.

The song I choose by Charlie Daniels came off their 1980 album called Full Moon that went platinum. In 1979 The Charlie Daniels released their 10th album called Million Mile Reflections which included their biggest hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” He formed The Charlie Daniels Band in 1972 joining the first wave of Southern rock bands. In 1967, after the invitation from producer Bob Johnston, he moved with his wife and their two year old son to Nashville, Tennessee, where he began session work including playing on Bob Dylan sessions. His first paid gig as a musician occurred in 1954 in Gulf NC. As a child, the family moved to Valdosta, Georgia and Elizabethtown, North Carolina before returning to Wilmington. He was the only child of the late Carlton and LaRue Daniels. My song is a tribute to a North Carolinian singer/songwriter and fiddle player extraordinaire who passed away in 2020 at the age of 83.Ĭharles Edward Daniels “Charlie Daniels” was born on Wednesday, October 28th, 1936 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
